Immigration and Citizenship Community News September 2024

September 11, 2024

Hello Comets,

The Fall semester has begun. To all of our new students, welcome to UT Dallas!

Who We Are:

The Office of Immigrant and Citizenship Services (OICS) is here for you!

Our mission is to provide specific immigration and citizenship services, referrals and advocacy to support the matriculation, retention, graduation, and professional success of our students and community.

OICS will provide basic immigration support and referrals to students including:

  • Nonimmigrant students including H, K, R, L and other categories, not F or J.
  • Legal Permanent Residents, including conditional residents and those pending permanent residency.
  • Students without valid immigration status, including those who are DACA recipients and those who are out of status.
  • Asylees, TPS, Refugees.

OICS is able to provide general immigration information, but we are not able to provide specific legal advice. Our obligation to UT Dallas immigrant and non-immigrant students is to provide advising and referrals as needed. Specific legal advice is available, should students seek such advice, through dedicated channels outside our office.

Services We Offer:

  • Immigration advising
    • Visit our advising page to schedule an appointment with an OICS advisor or to submit your questions on iComet. You can also visit our resources page for a variety of on campus and off-campus resources.
  • Citizenship Corner
    • A Citizenship Corner is a dedicated space to provide information to lawful permanent residents (LPRs) about the naturalization process to become a U.S. citizen. OICS has a citizenship corner providing study materials to help LPR students prepare for the naturalization interview and test. These resources are free for UT Dallas students. Send us an email or schedule an appointment through our advising page to pick up some resources.
  • U.S. Passport Services
    • UTD has its very own Passport Office on campus ready to help you and your friends and family apply for their U.S. Passports. Our office can also provide VISA and Immigration photos for most cases. If you are in need of applying/renewing your immigration status to USCIS and are in need of a photo, our office can help as those requirements follow the same guidelines as U.S. Passport applications. For questions or more information, view the passport services webpage, call 972-883-7415 or email passport@utdallas.edu.
